English Language

  • Upon entering the Graduate Program in Physics at IF-UFF, students must attend the English Language Exam. The registration can be made via e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
  • The Exam will be applied by the Superintendence of International Relations of UFF (SRI / UFF) on the dates scheduled in the Academic Calendar.
  • The content of the exam will be approached in the form of a written test, where the student's ability to read and interpret texts will be evaluated.
  • The waiver of the Exam may be required in the following cases:
  1. Approval to an English language test, evidenced in a postgraduate school record, issued by UFF or the institution of the student's origin. In particular, students who have passed the English Language Exam in the Master's Course (at IF-UFF or in another Program recognized by CAPES) will be excused from the Exam upon enrollment in the Doctorate Course.
  2. Presentation of a certificate of proficiency that proves knowledge to the intermediate level of the english language, as established by SRI / UFF. The following certificates will be accepted: TOEFL (ITP 460, IBT 79), TOEIC (550), Michigan (ECPE), CAE, CPE, FCE, PET, ECPE, IELTS (4,5), PTE (43), IELTS (4,5), BEC (Preliminary, Vantage or Higher). Other official certificates or a demonstration that the student is a native English speaker may also be considered as a waiver, at the discretion of the Course Collegiate.

Second Foreign Language (Doctorate students)

  • The Exam will be applied by the Institute of Physics on the dates scheduled in the Academic Calendar.
  • The content of the exam will be approached in the form of a written test, where the student's ability to read and interpret texts will be evaluated.
  • At the time of registration, the student must indicate his or her choice of a foreign language. The options currently offered are as follows:
    • Spanish
    • French
    • Italian
    • German
    • Persian
    • Mandarin
  • The waiver of the Exam may be required in the following cases:
  1. Approval to a second foreign language exam, evidenced in a postgraduate school record, issued by UFF or the institution of the student's origin.
  2. Presentation of a certificate of proficiency proving knowledge from the intermediate level of the language, as established by SRI / UFF. In particular, the following certificates will be accepted:
    • Spanish: DELE, CELU.
    • French: DELF, DALF.
    • Italian: CILS, CELI, PLIDA and the exam of the University of Roma 3.
    • German: Goethe-Zertifikat C1; ZDP II; DSD I e II; PWD; ZOP; KDS; GDS; PNDS; DSH e TestDaF, level 5.
    • Other official certificates or a demonstration that the student is a native speaker in the required language may also be considered as a waiver, at the discretion of the Course Collegiate.
