Title: Bipartite entanglement entropy of the excited states of the free
fermions.
Abstract: The bipartite entanglement entropy for the ground state of
many models including free fermions, coupled harmonic oscillators,
quantum spin chains, CFTs, and topological systems has been studied
vastly. We know that there is universality and we can write a quantum
field theory for the ground state of the quantum many-body systems near
or at the critical point. However, for excited states, some volume-law
behavior has been reported. Also, some sort of universality has been
reported for the average of the entanglement entropy over the excited
states. In this work, we present some exact results for the entanglement
entropy of the excited states of free fermions in one-dimension. We also
comment on the average of the entanglement entropy and possible methods
to measure it.
