TÍTULO: (Precise) Higgs Physics at the LHC
Resumo:
The discovery of a Higgs boson at the LHC in 2012 completed the spectrum of particles of the Standard Model, but at the same time opened a new window for research in particle physics. While the data collected so far shows a good agreement with the expected properties, a more precise analysis is needed in order to determine whether this is the boson predicted by the theory, or, more interesting, if there is room for new physics in the Higgs sector. The task requires precision for both experimental measurements and theoretical predictions for a number of observables, including multiple Higgs production.
In this colloquium I will start by reviewing the main ideas behind the Higgs mechanism introduced to provide masses to the Standard Model particles. Afterwards I will describe the state of the art in Higgs production and summarize the LHC expectations for the next decade.
